Celebrate Somerset Day – 11th May

The Parish Council has received a letter from the County Council asking residents to celebrate Somerset Day.

The suggestion is that towns and villages should decorate areas with red and yellow. [The colours of the Somerset Flag – the Red Wyvern on a yellow background].

Some residents will remember the large number of scarecrows that appeared in the villages to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Therefore the Parish Council is inviting all residents to join in and create scarecrows and have them in place for 11th May. We must bear in mind that some Covid-19 restrictions may still be in place but this should not affect our ability to stroll the villages and enjoy each other’s creations.

The Theme – Rural Somerset

The celebration is to start on the weekend of the 8th/9th May, so if you can have your scarecrow in the
garden by that weekend we will all have a chance to walk around and enjoy them. We are sure this is a village event we can all take part in without breaking Covid rules.

Can we beat the 63 that appeared in 2012??
